Jack the Ripper was a pseudonym given to an unknown serial killer who operated in London in 1888.
His victims were prostitutes whose murders were committed in public places. Another common denominator was the severed neck and mutilated body.
It is estimated that the victims were first strangled for not shouting and then mutilated. This is also explained by the lack of blood in the crime scenes.
Another thing that happened to three of the victims was that the internal organs were removed, which probably meant that the perpetrator had anatomical and surgical knowledge.
The problem may have started with the increased immigration to London at that time. This increased population in the city, increased unemployment and consequently poverty. This pushed many women into prostitution so that they could survive.
It seems that five women were definitely his victims, although it is speculated that there may have been four or seven or more.
The dates of his five certain victims were August 31, September 8, 2 victims on September 30 and November 9, all in 1888. If there was a victim before these dates it would be on August 7 of the same year.
The perpetrator was never arrested. The inability of the police to locate him led many volunteers to form groups and patrol their neighborhoods. Private detectives were also used for the investigations, and the fee for anyone who provided information leading to his arrest was increased.
The police, trying to understand his character, made several allegations. That he might have been a lonely man, that he might have had homicidal or even erotic mania, that he might have had satirical tendencies, vengeful or melancholy thoughts, and even religious mania. The explanation was also given that he might have done it to show his disgust with the notorious places.
Police identified many as suspects, including women. There was also the thought that the perpetrator might have been a woman or a man dressed as a woman.
In 2014 it is alleged that the perpetrator was discovered by DNA testing. A drop of blood on a victim’s clothing showed that the perpetrator was a 23-year-old Pole who worked as a barber.
