Japan intends to build two warships to sail between the country and North Korea. Their purpose is to patrol the sea between the two countries and intercept missiles that will be fired from the country hostile to them.

These two ships will have a displacement of 9,000 tons each and will be able to carry cargo up to 11,000 tons. They will be of the largest boats of its kind.

The cost for both will be 4.8 billion US dollars and will be manufactured by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.

The country’s authorities were considering installing the missile system in coastal areas but eventually decided to place it on ships because they could be moved.

They will have advanced systems for shooting down missiles. Their radars will be the American Lockheed Martin SPY-7 and their missile system will be the SM-3. They will have 96 launchers each.
