Diego Maradona was an Argentine football legend who is considered one of the greatest of all time.

He was born in 1960 in Buenos Aires and came from a poor family. He was the fifth of eight children.

At the age of three he received a ball as a gift and since then he began to show his passion as well as his talent. At the age of 10, he started playing for the Los Cebollitas children’s soccer team. His outstanding skills led the team to a 136-match unbeaten run. Before completing his 16th year, he started playing for the main team of Los Cebollitas.

During his career he played for teams in Argentina, Spain and Italy. Most of them led to winning championships. He had the ability to create goal opportunities both for himself and for his other teammates.

But the culmination of his career was the 1986 World Cup, when he led Argentina to the trophy. In total he played in 4 World Cups with his country’s national team.

Despite his successful career, his life was tarnished by his drug use. In 1991 he was sentenced to a 15-month suspension for drug use. This was repeated in 1994 when he was playing for the World Cup.

In 1997 he announced his retirement from the stadiums.

In 2000 and 2004 he was admitted to hospital for heart problems.

In 2008 he returned as the coach of his national team. However, the bad appearance at the 2010 World Cup forced those in charge not to renew his contract.

He died in 2020 at his home in Argentina of a heart attack.
