The Pentagon has said that space is part of a war because it knows that China and Russia are developing weapons that can hit satellites.
Satellites are now essential in our lives as they serve for communication, collection and transmission of information but also for navigation.
The country abandoned its defense program in 2002 but has resumed it in 2019 due to increased threat from its two biggest rivals.
These two countries have already developed missiles capable of hitting orbiting satellites. They also have electronic systems that ‘blind’ the sensors of the satellites but also interfere with their frequencies so that the transmission of information is not possible.
So the US is now looking for ways to make these attacks by its opponents as ineffective as possible.
