The Statue of Liberty is located at the entrance to New York Harbor and depicts Freedom as a female figure.

In her raised right hand she holds a torch and on her left is a plaque stating the date ‘July 4, 1776’ which is the day of the declaration of US independence.

It was a gift from France to the United States. It is a monument to French-American friendship.

Its static structure was prepared by Gustav Eiffel, for the construction of the huge steel frame. The sculptor of the statue covered the skeleton with copper sheets forged by hand to give it the exterior shape.

It was disassembled into 350 pieces to be transported to New York where it was reassembled in 1885.

It weighs 228 tons and has a height of 46.5 meters without its base. With the base it reaches 93 meters. Inside there are 168 steps up to the head, where there are 25 windows. In the right hand up to the torch there are another 58 windows.

At its base is the Immigration Museum.

Since 1986 it is considered a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
