Astronomers have identified the largest galaxy ever discovered.

Alcyoneus, as it was named, is about 3 billion light-years away. It has a length of 5 megaparsecs (16.3 billion light years). It has a mass 240 billion times that of our Sun and has a black hole at its center with a mass about 400 million times that of our Sun.

It is considered that it continues to grow.

To astronomers, giant galaxies are a mystery to the universe. Also mysterious are the large-scale environments that contribute to their development.
