The R-37 is a Russian air-to-air missile that can strike aircraft and enemy missiles.

Initially it receives information from the central system about the location of its target. But when it approaches it, it activates its own radar to detect exactly its target.

It will replace the R-33 missiles used by the MiG-31. Their development began in 1983 and the first tests started in 1989. However, in 1998 the program stopped due to high costs and the lack of several aircraft that would use these missiles. Finally, the program was restarted in 2006 as part of the MiG-31BM aircraft development program.

The rocket in its current form is very flexible and versatile. In addition to the MiG-31, it will also be used by the Su-35.

It has a length of 4.06 meters and a diameter of 0.38 meters. It weighs 510 kg and has a range of 200 km.

It can reach a speed of Mach 6 (up to 7350 km / h).
