The Statue of Christ the Redeemer is located at the top of Corcovado Hill in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

It depicts Jesus Christ with outstretched arms.

The idea for the construction of a religious monument existed since 1850 but the start of construction was postponed several times for various reasons, mainly financial.

Finally in 1926 construction began and was completed in 1931.

A Brazilian engineer with a French sculptor were responsible for its construction. The stone with which it was made came from Sweden.

When completed it was the largest sculpture in the world.

It is located at a height of 710 meters and the height of the statue is 32 meters. Its weight is 1,000 tons. At the base there is a chapel and guests can see it up close by getting there with lifts and escalators.
