The city of Petra is located in Jordan and is carved into rocks.
In the past, the inhabitants used the name Rakmou which means ‘Rock with colored streaks’.
The name Petra was given by Greek merchants because the inhabitants offered goods and made sacrifices on a large stone. They were also religiously involved in the worship of rocks and that is why they carved their area.
It was first inhabited in the 9th millennium BC. However, it took its current form in the 1st century AD.
Greek and Arabic weapons were found during excavations. It was also confirmed that the city had previously been attacked by Greeks and Persians.

Its architecture was influenced by the Greeks and Romans. Its most important buildings are the treasury, the monastery, the theater with a capacity of 15,000 people, the baths, the royal tomb and the commercial street.
