Alfred Nobel was a Swedish chemist, engineer and industrialist.

He was born in 1833 and his father was the inventor of the submarine mine and also an engineer and industrialist.

Alfred studied in Russia and the USA.

He dealt with chemistry and mainly with explosives. He perfected the method of preparing nitroglycerin and established a factory to produce it in large quantities.

In 1873 he settled in Paris where he invented neodynamite.

In 1889 he sold his invention to the Italian government and in 1891 he settled in the country. There he created a chemical factory.

He received many patents and acquired a large fortune, much of which he devoted to charity and research. With the rest of his fortune he established the awards that bear his name, the Nobel Prizes.

He died in 1896 of an intracerebral hemorrhage.
