He was a Mongol leader who lived between 1162 and 1227.
He rose from humble beginnings to establish the largest land empire in history. He united the nomadic tribes of the Mongolian plateau and he conquered land of central Asia. His followers were Christians, Muslims and Buddhists.
His descendants expanded the empire to modern day Poland, Vietnam, Syria and Korea. All this was about the size of Africa.
He was born near the border between Mongolia and Siberia. His early life was violent due to fighting between Asian tribes. When he was 10 his father was killed.
In 1178 he got married and had 4 sons and unknown number of daughters.
When his wife was rescued, he planned a very daring rescue operation and succeeded.
As an emperor he forbade kidnapping and selling of women, he banned enslavement and allowed freedom of religion.
He never allowed a paint of his portrait, sculpt his image and engrave his likeness on coins. His first image was after his death.
He fell off his horse causing internal injuries that never recovered.
His final resting place remains unknown.
