Researchers at the University of Hong Kong created a robot that can transition between liquid and solid states.
This gives the ability to navigate through numerous obstacles. It is inspired by the sea-cucumber that can alter the stiffness of its tissues.
It is made of a mixture of gallium with magnetic particles which create a magnetoactive solid-liquid phase robot. The magnetic particles make the material responsive to an alternating magnetic field which heat-up to become softer and change state.
