She was a Chinese woman who ran a human smuggling operation, bringing people from China to USA, from 1984 to 2000.

Her real name was Cheng Chui Ping. She was born in 1949 in a poor farming village. As a child she was working at the family’s farm.

When she was 15, her father went to USA to work. He was sending money to his family for 13 years. Then he was sent back to China because he was working there illegally.

When he was back in China, he was involved in the human smuggling business.

In 1969 Cheng got married and had 4 children.

In 1974 she went to Hong Kong and opened a factory.   

In 1981 she moved to New York and opened a shop. There she lived in a lower middle class neighborhood.

In 2000 she was arrested in Hong Kong and extradited to the USA. She was sentenced 35 years in prison.

She sent 3.000 people to USA and that gave her a profit of 40 million USD.

She died of pancreatic cancer in 2014.
