Obesity is the accumulation of excess fat.
There are many factors that contribute to childhood obesity.
It increases the risk of other diseases in the future.
Extra pounds strain the body and force it to work harder to function.
- Heart disease: the heart works harder to circulate blood to a larger body and causes hypertension and high cholesterol.
- Diabetes: the body breaks down food into glucose to provide energy. Insulin which is the hormone in the pancreas plays a role in this. Obesity resists insulin causing high blood sugar levels and consequently diabetes.
- Mental health: Low self-esteem leads to depression, social anxiety and eating disorders.
To avoid it, we eat healthy. We choose fruits, vegetables, whole grains and low-fat milk.
We still need to exercise to reduce body fat. And spend less time on screens.
It is also good to sleep at a fixed time.
And it is very important to be a good example for the child.
