The Sukhoi T-50 is intended to be Russia’s new ‘invisible’ multi-role fighter aircraft.
Its functions will cover the needs of both the Russian and Indian air forces. 150 to 200 units are expected to be built for Russia and 200 for India.
It is the first fighter developed by Sukhoi since the fall of the Soviet Union. The prototype flew for the first time in 2010. However, its construction began in 2007. The request from the Russian government for the creation of such an aircraft was made in 1998.
It aims to replace the Russian MiG-29 and Su-30 aircraft and be able to compete with the F-35 and F-22.
It will be operated by one operator and will have two engines. It will be able to fly at speeds in excess of 2,000 km / h and will be able to be refueled during the flight. It will have the ability to take off and land quickly as well as the ability to leave a small footprint on enemy radar. Its exterior is made of low-observable materials.
