We all know that today governments and companies are trying to develop technologies that will be more environmentally friendly. So there are many different methods for alternative energy sources.
So the German Lurssen announced that by 2025 it will deliver a yacht that will operate with hydrogen cells and not with oil.
The boat will be supplied with methanol which will be converted to hydrogen. The company has been working on this type of technology since 2012. Then with the use of the hydrogen produced, electricity will be generated. The reason that the boat is supplied with methanol and not with hydrogen is because methanol is much easier to store and because it has a large amount of hydrogen.
The great advantage of hydrogen is that its system needs less and cheaper maintenance, is more efficient and the only by-product of combustion is water in gaseous form.
This system will be able to produce 120 KW of energy. So the boat can be autonomous for 15 days or for 1,000 nautical miles.
This technology will create new data for ‘green’ energy production.
