The European aircraft manufacturer Airbus, wants to be a pioneer in the creation of aircraft that will run on renewable energy sources. So recently it has introduced three different airplane concepts. The whole project is called ZEROe and the purpose is to make trips that do not emit exhaust gases.
A few months ago, specifically in September 2020, the company presented this work in Toulouse. It is estimated that this technology will be implemented by 2035 and will probably be the first to emit no exhaust gases.
It is worth mentioning that all three of these concepts have different designs. We can see them in the photos that follow.
Their energy source will be hydrogen because it is a very promising fuel for ‘green’ energy.
The first photo shows a concept that will have jet engines. It will be able to carry from 120 to 200 people and will be for long distances. It will be able to travel more than 2,000 nautical miles.
In the second photo we see the concept which will have propellers and not jet engines. It will be for shorter distances. Its range will be up to 1,000 nautical miles and will be able to carry up to 100 people.
The third concept as we see has a very futuristic design. Its wings appear to be a body with the main part of the aircraft. It will be able to carry up to 200 people and its range will be around 2,000 nautical miles.
These concepts will be developed to be examined and finally to create the ideal design.
To achieve this goal, methods for transport, storage of hydrogen and refueling should be developed. These will require large investments in research and considerable support from governments.
