The new Chinese Type 055 warships are multi-role. They have anti-aircraft missiles, torpedoes for submarines, missiles for ships and for land targets as well as systems for electronic warfare. It even has two helipads. It carries four Type 346B Dragon Eye radars that can direct anti-satellite missiles.
Its purpose is to accompany Chinese aircraft carriers.
They are manufactured by Changxingdao-Jiangnan Company and the cost of each unit is 890 million, in US dollars.
Construction began in 2014 and the first was put into service in 2020. Today there are three operating. The goal is to build 16 units.
At full load the displacement of each ship is 12 to 13,000 tons. They are 180 meters long and 20 meters wide. The thrust is generated by four gas turbines type QC-280 with a horsepower of 38,000 hp each.
It can reach speeds of up to 30 knots and has a range of up to 9,300 kilometers.
Its design is such that it leaves little or no mark on enemy radars (stealth).
