Russian analysts believe that their country’s new anti-missile system could hit the most advanced ‘invisible’ F-22 and F-35 fighter jets as well as supersonic missiles.
The new S-500 Prometey system is an upgrade of the S-400 Triumf system which has so far been the most powerful anti-missile system in the world.
It will now replace the A-135 system as well as the S-400.
It is currently considered the biggest threat to the US missile arsenal. In particular, it has been developed to be able to shoot down NATO’s most advanced aircraft and missiles.
The S-400 was put into service in 2007 and can detect targets from 600 kilometers away. Apart from Russia, China, India and Turkey have it. Prospective buyers may be Saudi Arabia, Belarus and Algeria.
India in 2018 ordered 5 batteries of S-400 for 5.3 billion US dollars. By 2023, their installation will be completed.
The S-500 began development by Almaz-Antey Corporation in 2009 and was first tested in June 2021 in Syria.
It can hit targets at high altitudes close to space.
It can simultaneously detect and hit 10 targets moving at a speed of 5,000 km / second. The system can be ported from mobile units. There will also be a variant for the navy to install on warships. It is estimated that it will be officially used in 2025.
China and Turkey have shown interest in buying this system.
