The Labyrinth was a complex building structure in Knossos, Crete. It was built by the engineer Daedalus on behalf of King Minos.

In mythology it was created to isolate the Minotaur who was half human and half bull. According to legend, Athens sent seven young men and seven young women to the Minotaur every year. To stop this, the Athenian hero Theseus entered the labyrinth and killed him. Minos’s daughter, Ariadne, helped Theseus out using her thread.
