The American Revolution was a war between Great Britain and the 13 colonies of the American continent.
It lasted from 1775 until 1783 with the final victory of the Americans and the creation of the USA.
The reason the armed struggle broke out was the heavy taxation imposed by Great Britain. Liberation from British hegemony was mainly sought by rich businessmen.
After the tea movement, when Americans threw British tea into the sea so it wouldn’t be sold, the British sent 4,000 troops in retaliation. Then the Americans inflicted heavy casualties on them forcing them to return to Britain.
On July 4, 1776 the Americans in Philadelphia declared their Independence.
For the next few years the English constantly sent reinforcements. But the French helped the Americans financially and with military material.
Finally the British army surrendered in 1781. But it officially ended in 1783 with the Treaty of Paris when England ceded the territories it held to the USA.
