He was a French tennis player, clothing designer and businessman. Besides these, he also made a career as a coach and singer.

In 1925 he won 2 major titles, Roland Garros and Wimbledon. The following year he became world champion. In total he won Roland Garros 3 times, Wimbledon 2 times and the US Championship 2 times.

In 1932 he retired and started his business activity in the field of clothing under his trademark, the crocodile.

His wife was a French golf champion. Together they had 3 children.

In 1963 he invented the steel racket. For the time it was a novelty since until then rackets were made of wood.

He died in 1996 from cancer.
