Dairy farmers in Britain are in dire financial straits to the point that in the past year, 5% of them have left the profession.

Energy prices have skyrocketed and there is a shortage of staff, with the result that the profession is in danger of disappearing. The other problem they face is the reduced retail prices of these products which are done to help the consumer, who is facing an increased cost of living these days. This has the consequence of bringing them much less profit. So they cannot cover their expenses, which are bills, feed and fertilizers.

The problem started with the start of the war in Ukraine and worsened last year with the drought. This created a shortage of grass for the animals to eat, so producers were forced to buy more feed.

They are pinning their hopes on the government which could pass new laws that will bring stability to the profession, with the creation of contracts and proper pricing.
