It was called Colossus and it was UK’s secret code-breaking computer created to help the Allies win the WW II.
Its existence was kept secret until the early 2000s.
The first one began operating from Bletchley Park in 1944.
By the end of the war there were 10 computers to decipher the Nazi messages.
It required a team of skilled operators and technicians to run and maintain them.
63 million characters of high grade German messages had been decrypted by the 550 people working on the computers.
After the war 8 of them were destroyed.
