It was an attempt during World War 2 to develop a tectonic weapon (a device which can trigger earthquakes) that could create tsunamis.

The idea came after militants noticed small waves generated by explosives.

It was developed by USA and New Zealand. The program was called Project Seal. Tests were conducted by the University of Auckland between 1944 and 1945, with small explosives and not at full scale. Eventually this weapon was never fully developed or used.

An experiment took place with 2.000.000 kg of explosives at a distance of 8 km of the coast. This could create a destructive wave.
