She conducted experiments alone since women did not have access to science at the time. With glass cylinders, she discovered that those with carbon dioxide were heated more by the sun. Thus, she linked carbon dioxide to the warming of the atmosphere.
She also conducted studies on atmospheric static electricity.
In 1841, she married and had 2 daughters.
She died in 1888.
