Cold War is the term used for the rivalry that existed between the Western bloc and the Eastern bloc after World War II.
The leading power of the Western bloc was the USA and of the Eastern bloc the USSR.
This competition existed on a geopolitical, military and economic level.
Its beginning was the end of the Second World War, it was the Allies, who defeated Nazi Germany, began to show tremors in their relations. The USSR was a one-party socialist state based on communism while the USA was a democratic state with a capitalist economy.
Fortunately there was no clash between the two great powers of the world but there were conflicts due to this rift in other countries like Korea, Vietnam and Afghanistan.
It was a long-term arms race and the development of nuclear weapons so that total annihilation of the enemy could be achieved if necessary.
Its end was the fall of the USSR in 1991.
