6 decades ago engineers built the reservoir and they flooded the town of Sant Roma de Sau and drowned its buildings.
Today droughts had dried the reservoir to 1% of its capacity and the village has come into view. Previously only the spire of the church was above the water level.
Increased evaporation, shorter rainy seasons and less snow on the mountains created water crisis in Catalonia.
Catalonia is a rich region but the existing situation kills the crops and destroys the economy, affecting the lives of 6 million people.
The Spanish government will invest 500 million euros in desalination plants.
