John Lennon was an English songwriter, musician, writer and peace activist. He became world famous with the Beatles.
He was born in Liverpool in 1940. His father was a sailor and his mother a dancer. When they divorced he grew up with his aunt and her husband who had him as their child.
In 1957 his mother gave him a guitar and encouraged him to play music.
She died in 1957 in a car accident. John could not get over her death and that was the reason why he developed a close friendship with the other Beatles member Paul McCartney, because he also lost his mother due to illness.
He loved painting and writing. The school did not concern him. He attended the College of Fine Arts in Liverpool.
There he met his first wife with whom he had a son in 1963.
In 1957 he founded the band Quarrymen. That same year he met Paul McCartney, who soon became a member. Then they met and included George Harrison in their work.
In 1959 they renamed their band the Beatles. In 1962 they released their first single and it was a huge success. At the same time, John was creating his own music separately from the band and releasing his own albums.
In 1970 the band disbanded because the internal frictions between them began to become intense.
In 1971 he moved to New York. There he was a leading figure in the anti-Vietnam-war movement. He was trying to raise awareness in the world.
In 1975 he married his second wife and had a second son.
In 1980 he was assassinated by a fan.
